For 2008, they are looking to build on that success and to make a serious run at the Big VIII and Inland division titles. That is easier said than done as there is a pack of some pretty ferocious Huskies (cross-town rivals, Centennial) waiting for them. This version of the Sharks, though, will come heavily armed (or should it be "with teeth sharpened"?) with 15 returning starters and a new QB (Brandon Connette) that Coach Steve Mitchell describes as "tremendously talented". So talented, perhaps, that he may have inspired the switch to a new offense. Aside from the QB, there are other solid players on this roster such as TE/LB Marlion Barnett, OL Jordan Johnson, DB/WR Sean Martin, and DB/WR Sean Murray who could potentially be seen playing at the next level in '09. Overall, Coach Mitchell suggests his team was not merely satisfied with last season. "[We had a] great work ethic in off-season and impressive gains in team strength and speed." Does all of this equate to a championship team? Too early to say, but Santiago will have a huge opportunity to make a statement in their first game against a very strong Esperanza team.
