The Newark Memorial Cougars return twelve starters from their successful 2007 team. The team will have a strong defense, with all-leaguers Ryan Hudgens OG/LB, Anthony Sao LB/FB, Eric Banford DL/OT, Greig O'Connor DL/OG and Grayson Hudgens DB/SE returning this year. They may struggle in some secondary positions, and they especially need quick learners in the quarterback, Tight End and Outside Linebacker positions. There is a lot of dependence on a 7-3 junior varsity to add to another successful year. "Our schedule is very challenging with 6 of the first 7 games versus teams that made the playoffs last year. How well we do in close games will determine our overall record," commented coach Swift.
