In their defense, however, the Mustangs were a young team. A total of 15 starters return, including junior RB/DE Leonard Rhodes, LBs Donald Scheffler and Kevin Sarehkhani, S/WR Matt Carriaga, and junior WR/DB Jason Hernandez. As previously mentioned, the offense really struggled last year (only 8.9 points per game) and in turning things around, Walnut is having to replace 3 offensive linemen. Still, Coach Michael O'Shields feels very good about his team and its chances, "There are many returners on this team, so the expectations are sky high." With South Hills still going strong at the top of the league, Walnut could make it interesting next season, but more realistically, a playoff spot may be more attainable.
