Outlook: Indio High School will welcome a new head coach this fall, James Gordon. With him comes a lot of enthusiasm and hope. "We are looking to compete for a DVL Championship and to make a run into the playoffs for the first time in many years." It appears there is reason for the optimism. Returning is multi-threat Rafzeem Johnson (1201 yards rushing, 502 yards receiving, 14 total TDs in '07) and taking over the QB duties will likely be Robert Hartfield, who similarly saw action at both RB and WR last year. Defensively, Coach Gordon will be relying on LB Kevin Gilbert to again be one of the team leaders in tackles. If there is something that concerns the coaching staff, it's depth. Indio has some tools to make some noise in the Desert Valley League, but it won't be easy competing against tough La Quinta and Palm Desert programs.
