John Ward will be the defensive coordinator for the 2008 season, and Eric Hankins moves from defense to QB coach. There were many other changes at all levels of the program. The Delta Kings return eleven starters. Quarterback Anthony Salter passed for 2,500 yards and produced 25 touchdowns. Ty Minkins RB was a starter last year as a sophomore. He rushed for 750 yards and scored seven touchdowns. Other outstanding returning players include D'Andre Woods OT, All-league center Adam Proulx, and Derrick Wofford WR. Overall, there were five sophomores playing on varsity last year. We learned recently that a talented DI prospective wide receiver, Shaquille Senegal, transferred from McNair, where he made a significant impact for the team. Senegal will replace last year's Joseph Washington. The team's offense will be strong this year, but defense needs to rebuild. Lots of talent was lost to graduation last year. The program is building and may have its best season since 1999. A new $170,000 weight room and $20,000 remodeled Locker room are signs of that growth. There were some very close losses last year, but Coach Don Norton is looking to the future. "We have been improving every season since we took over program 3 years ago. We hope this is the season we get over the top and into the playoffs," surmised Norton.
