Coach Greg Benzel told us that he felt a competitive pre-league schedule was necessary to prepare for their stout Sierra Foothill league. The Thunder has generated one of the most difficult schedules in the Sac-Joaquin Section. They dropped several above-average teams to include Oak Ridge, North Coast Section 2A runner-up champion Las Lomas, perennial powerhouse Nevada Union and Sac-Joaquin Division I champion Napa. The Thunder returns only nine starters from last year. They will have a solid front seven on defense, but they may struggle with the lack of depth in the skill positions. "We are excited about our guys and have high expectations for them," said Coach Benzel. Players who will have the greatest impact include Brandon Barone OL/DL (44 tackles, 13 assists, 3 sacks), Elliot Thompson DL (great tackler, 5 sacks), Jackson Cummings RB/FS/K (352 rushing yards, 36 tackles, 15 assists), Steven Hurley C and Ben Holland LB. "We look forward to the tough challenges ahead with confidence, knowing that we have our work cut out for us," Benzel concluded.
