Outlook: The Prospect Panthers move up from the Santa Teresa league to the West Valley league. Both leagues, along with the top Mount Hamilton league, are a part of the Blossom Hill super-league. The Panther's move means stiffer competition this season. "The 2008 season, looking from the outside inward, could be a very challenging year for us," Coach Al Diaz commented. "The coaching staff and players know what is expected of them. Therefore, we plan on challenging and competing with the best of them in the STAL." The school adds a new turf practice field and moves their weight room to a different location. The Panthers return 11 starters. Malo Alalaatoa, Sophomore of the Year as a lineman, has lost weight and is working hard. Coach Diaz plans to move him to the inside linebacker position with his twin brother Tasi. Tasi Alalaatoa, 2nd team defense ILB, is physical and getting better. He'll cover the fullback position on offense as well as ILB. Shane Miller, a wide receiver last year, will have a big year in the new Panthers Shotgun Spread. Coach Diaz has moved him to the quarterback position for a special Arkansas Mcfadden Wildcat offensive scheme. Nova Hardy is the most athletic player on the team and was 2007's Most Outstanding Defensive Back with six interceptions and a number of blocked passes. Michael Brown, 2007's 2nd team QB, recorded 678 passing yards, 5 Touchdowns and 5 rushing touchdowns. He should have a big year. The Panthers will depend on overall team speed, especially in the skill positions and key returners; they will benefit from a bigger line. But Coach Diaz must overcome the lack of depth and experience.
