Even St. Bonaventure, last year's D-III winner and small by most school standards, is about twice the size of most of the schools that will compete in this new division. Western Christian High School is one of the teams that believes they have a fighting chance to get to Carson. 13 starters return including junior QB Alex Beaton, RB Josh Wiley, and WR Reed Covington. One of the major factors in high school football is depth and that problem can have a 10-fold impact with smaller schools. Although many of the players on this year's team will have a fair amount of varsity experience, the Fighting Lancers will only field about 26 players. Many of the top offensive players are going to have to make a similar impact on D. Overall, Coach Rob Castaneda likes what type of team he has. "[We have a] hard working team, great attitude, [they] never make excuses." Western Christian will find out just how big of a shot they have for a bowl game when they take on one of the top contenders, St. Margaret's, in late October.
