The Mendota Aztecs return 14 starters. Coach Daniel will be depending on the leadership of Chris Marquez LB, Patrick Sanchez QB, Juan Ledesma OL, Adan Romero LB, Michael Zavala LB and Joel Hernandez OL to bring consistency and cohesiveness. The Aztecs have a fast defense this year. The defensive core has been playing together for three years, and they are very quick to go to the ball. Size may prove to be a challenge. The players are big on the line, but they are small in the backfield. "We should be slightly improved. There are some big expectations with the returning players and new ones coming in. A very tough preseason schedule will either make or break our league and playoff performance," wrote Daniel. The Aztecs have a newly formed league (West Sierra League having only three league mates) and therefore increase the pre-league schedule options.
