The Panthers are much younger this year, with as many as seven sophomores playing varsity. The Panther defense should be strong again with a deep core of linebackers. Coach Jeff Freitas wrote, "We have a strong core of defenders back from a unit that posted three consecutive home shutouts in 2007 (Coalinga 21-0, Sierra 41-0, and Kerman 41-0). We will look to defend our North Sequoia League Title with Yosemite, Chowchilla and Dos Palos looking to say otherwise." Key players to watch this year include Nick Chapman LB, Mike Renteria OT/DE, Celso Howard LB, Devin Reyes LB/OG, Eddie Daniels WR/CB, sophomore Carlos Flores LB/RB/K, and Dante Smith RB. Chapman is a DI Recruit prospect with several letters of interest. Flores was named All-League Freshman of the Year. The Panthers offense lost significant talent to graduation. Only Renteria, Daniels and Reyes return from an offense that averaged 35 points-per-game.
