Outlook: St. Anthony High School hopes to build on the success they enjoyed in 2007 when they finished 2nd in the Santa Fe League. That was a relatively young team, as 17 starters are returning for 2008. Although 8 of those starters are on offense, the Saints do not return anyone with a significant number of carries at RB nor passes from the QB spot. That, however, isn't quite as bad as it sounds, as John Graves, who saw action at WR last year, moves to RB, and Lamont Rowe, who was among the leading WRs, moves to QB (possibly a factor in the progress they've witnessed during passing leagues). Also returning is another favorite passing target, TE Mika Yandall. Defensively, Graves should also play at LB, where he was one of the leading tacklers last year. He'll be joined by LB Sergio Gonzalez, DL/OL Fernando Masias, and DB/WR Sunny Montoya. As is often the case in high school football, many of the offensive stars also are among the playmakers on defense and that seems especially true for this Saint team. Health will definitely be of concern, but if St. Anthony can avoid any serious injuries, they should be primed to make a serious run at the Santa Fe League title.
