Outlook: Coach Rob Cozart hopes to ride the momentum rolling from a 2007 section-finalist team that set a school-record eleven wins. In fact, The Patterson Tigers lost only twice, both times to the same team. Central Catholic (Modesto), who represented the North in the California Division III Bowl, denied the Tigers of a league title and a section title. This year is the largest turnout for varsity football - 95 students. The Tigers return only eight starters, but these players are key in Coach Cozart's opinion. They return three of four starting defensive linemen, Danny Arriola G/DT, Jorden Faatiga DT, and Imani Brown DE. On offense, the Tigers return Daniel Reza QB (1202 passing yards) and playmaker Ronyea Ellington WR. Other key players to watch include Jacob Priester T, Siaosi Tupouata LB, Malik Okitukunda CB, Larry Taylor CB and Anthony Ginestra SS. The team adds two more freshmen coaches as the school's enrollment continue to grow. It is highest ever having 1700+ students. The tigers have a strong home-field advantage; winning 14 of 17 games at home in the last three years. So, the staff is pleased to be playing 6 home games each year for the next 2 years. Coach Cozart wrote a nice summary for his team. "Going into last season, we really didn't feel that we would have as much success as we ended up having, but the team continued to get better and we made it all the way to the Section Championship for the first time ever. Having done that, it really does prove that you never can predict your season. I do, however, believe that this year's team will do some very good things and continue our playoff streak, making some noise along the way. We never set a goal of finishing in second place, so of course we are focused on winning the WAC [Western Athletic Conference] Championship, and after that a Sac-Joaquin Section Championship. We always take the season one game at a time."
