Players expected to lead include Malcolm Webb QB, Mike Canalin RB/DB, David Wilson TE/DE, Corey Amsbaugh MLB, Matt Hulsey LB and Sean Hulsey OL. Malcolm Webb, who tied the 2nd place record for 11 interceptions and rushed for 880 yards, moves to the quarterback position. He will make a good option play caller. Coach Javier Lopez wrote a lot about his team. The Pirates will feature plenty of speed in 2008. They will use the talent of RB/Slot Michael Canalin whose speed and agility will be used constantly. As does Canalin, David Wilson returns for his 3rd year as varsity player. His 6'4 215 frame will be used at both tight end and wide receiver, giving Webb a big target. Junior Vince Vetrone will also see plenty of action in the backfield, using his agility and quickness to gain yards. Junior Michael Davis and Senior Sean Hulsey will anchor a young offensive line. The defense returns 8 starters from last season. Leading the attack are Seniors Corey Amsbaugh LB, Matt Rasmussen DE, Mike Canalin DB, Malcolm Webb DB, Josh Varner DT, Matt Hulsey LB. Juniors Clint Johnson LB, Zach Downing DE, Rodney Faupula DT. The Pirates have young offensive line that could take 3-4 games to develop, but they could grow into an outstanding group. Coach Lopez said, "The Pirates expect to compete for the Butte View League Championship, along with HEAVY favorite Sutter High School and Winters." He expects to be in the running for a Northern Section, Division II title.
