Outlook: Defending Southern Section Northwest Division champion Oaks Christian would like to not only add another SS divisional title to their trophy case, but also another CIF State title (winners in 2006). As if last year's team wasn't tough enough (at least when at full strength), 15 starters will be returning for the 2008 campaign. To further demonstrate the problems this program will be delivering to others, many of those returners are only going to be juniors. On any other team, a 2000-yard rusher would be the biggest news and the focus of the team, especially when he did that as a sophomore. Well, this isn't just any team. Two high-profile transfers at the QB position have made their way over to the Westlake Village campus. Tony Macarena transferred from nearby powerhouse St. Bonaventure and, if you can believe it, some guy named Montana thinks he can also play the position. Yes, the son of Joe, Nick Montana and his family have moved from the Bay Area, where he was attending another national powerhouse and defending state champion, De La Salle. TE Christopher Coyle (Arizona St. commit) will lead yet another talented group of targets for whomever wins that QB battle. Again, continuing the theme of youth, the defense will be a solid blend of seniors and juniors who have seen extensive play time already, including junior LB Zach Stout (the team's leading tackler in '07) and senior DB Nick Nugwynne. Many of the stars mentioned from the offense are also standouts on the Lion D. This team will be tested by an upgraded non-league schedule (including Bakersfield Christian, Diamond Ranch, Chaminade, and Venice, who won last year's contest). Whether or not there is anyone in the division good enough to prevent Oaks Christian from being a major factor in the CIF D-III Bowl selection meeting remains to be seen, but an interesting game will take place on November 7th, against divisional newcomer and defending Mid-Valley division champion, Santa Clara of Oxnard.
