Outlook: The success of the San Antonio League champion, South Hills High School, didn't stop with the regular season. It included a deep run in the Southern Section Southwest Division playoffs, losing in the semifinals to eventual champion, El Dorado, in overtime. Leading the offense will be QB Cameron Deen (several Pac-10 teams have interest). While the leading rusher for the Huskies does not return, junior Miles Bevel will be taking over the duties. Says Coach Steve Bogan, "How he runs between the OTs will be a factor. We know he is good in space, if he runs well inside, and can go both ways without injury we will be a very tough team." Speaking of going both ways, Bevel is also one of the team's top pass defenders and could get D-I looks next year. Other top returning defenders include LB Wayne Goss, DE Alex Barrios, CB Geoffrey Vaughn, LB Chris Bowden, and SS Ruben Townes. Adds Coach Bogan, "So far the team is coming together as planned. All this makes us cautiously very optimistic, and sometimes flat out excited." One thing to note is that the San Antonio League was moved from the Southwest Division down to the Southeast Division. As such, this team could once again find themselves deep in the playoffs.
