That should make the Spirits pretty tough to stop, especially since they had already put up a healthy 34.6 points per game a year ago. The QB is not one of those 9 returners, and Matt Cordova is expected to take over that spot. Two ball carriers who saw a lot of action in '07 return in Dante Donato (over 800 yards) and Brandon Buteyn (over 500 yards). That looks pretty good since on top of those numbers, they had a back get over 1400 yards, too. The now experienced offensive line (4 starters return, another major reason for optimism) will be led by AJ Culver, an All-Mid-Valley Division selection. The defense was no slouch, either, last year as it only gave up an average of 12.1 ppg in '07. The '08 edition will have a pair of All-Mid-Valley Division selections, too, in LB Kyle Swanson and DL Todd Davis (who was only a sophomore last year). Coach Norm Dahlia has a little concern about the inexperience of his secondary, but believes that newcomer Kylan Warren should have a nice impact. Paraclete should be even better than last year, but that may not be the only reason their divisional title hopes are risen. The two finalists in last year's playoffs have moved into another division. The Spirits have an interesting season opener against Serrano of Phelan, who won 11 games last year.
