The Cardinal Newman Cardinals were thrust into the California State, if not National, limelight when they nearly toppled nationally ranked Oaks Christian in the first California State Bowl III Championship in 2006. Their run for the State Bowl fell short in 2007 in a North Coast Sectional Championship loss in 2007. This year, Cardinal Newman moves down a division, making their potential play-off run less painful. Coach Paul Cronin will look for Randy Wright QB, Jon Steele OL/DL, Jacob Gowan Ol/DL, Casy Miller WR/DB, Wade Ameral WR/DB, Jeff Badger and Joe Ferguson RB/LB to lead the Cardinals to another California Bowl. The team also reloads with an 8-2 junior varsity squad.
