Outlook: First year Head Coach George Mitsopoulos revamps the entire varsity coaching staff in hopes of ushering in a new era of Monarchs football. Key returning talent includes Joshua Jackai RB/LB, Truman Nguyen DE/TE, Leki Latu RB/DE and Abraham Ledezma C. We liked how Coach Mitsopoulos wrote his review of the Mt. Eden strengths so we left it as written: "A young, up and coming squad of defensive backs lead on defense by an experienced linebacker core. Not to be outdone offensively by a hard nosed offensive line and quality depth in the backfield." The first year of coaching is usually tough because of the new systems being introduced. In the right combinations, however, a new coaching staff can bring to energy and success to a football program. Time will tell if that is the case with the Monarchs. "We believe that we've always been an "underdog" in the race to be league champs and this year is no different. As long as we take everything one step at a time, we will be a top contender in the HAAL [Hayward Area Athletic League]," surmised Coach Mitsopoulos.
