Weighted losses penalize you more for having your top ranked teams lose: 25 points for #1, 24 for #2, etc. "Upsets only" refers to not counting losses in situations where you had the winner of the game ranked higher. In other words, for example, it doesn't make sense to penalize a poll when their #2 team beats their #23 team. Since not all polls rank in mid-August (and most states have not started playing), the 8/28 poll is used as the start date for this competition. calpreps does not have a poll until 9/18, and will always be late due to the nature of the system (no team is rated until three games are played). Teams are ranked by average per week, so having less weeks does not cause a problem.
